Nijmegen is the most populous city in the province of Gelderland, so the largest DIY store in the Netherlands cannot be missing here either. The mayor of Nijmegen, Hubert Bruls, joined store manager Niels van Essen in opening HORNBACH Baumarkt AG's latest DIY store at 7 a.m. on July 12. The 20,000 square meter store was built in just nine months.
Evert de Goede, Managing Director of HORNBACH in the Netherlands, is delighted with the opening of the DIY store on Wendelring in Nijmegen: "After Apeldoorn and Duiven, Nijmegen is our third and overall largest store in the province of Gelderland. It is fantastic that we can now also support craftsmen in the Nijmegen region with their projects. A team of 180 expert colleagues is ready to help customers. They have been trained over the past weeks and months and have lent a hand in setting up the store."
The new combined DIY megastore with garden center, located directly on the A325 freeway between Nijmegen and Arnhem, has an area of more than 20,000 square meters, with the drive-in facility covering more than 4,500 square meters. During the construction of the HORNBACH store in Nijmegen, great importance was attached to resource-saving construction methods. This includes a connection to the district heating grid and a particularly high insulation value for the facade and roof.
"The store has a green roof that collects water, provides food for insects, cools in summer and ensures healthy air in the immediate vicinity. This makes our store something very special in the entire Netherlands," says store manager Niels van Essen.
High customer appeal for decades
In the Netherlands, HORNBACH has become the market leader in the DIY sector over the past 25 years. The opening of the new, largest HORNBACH store in the province of Gelderland will further expand HORNBACH's market share in the Netherlands. In view of the high level of customer demand, the retail company intends to continue to grow: this involves adding drive-in facilities to existing stores. Moreover, new locations are constantly being sought to enable the company to open project construction stores in further towns and cities.
